School is back in Session
The end of August and beginning of September means a couple of different things to many of us. School is starting back up and also for many of the students it means fall sports season is kicking off! For me as FCA staff, it makes it much easier to be around the coaches and athletes that I have been called to lead into a growing relationship with Jesus and His church. The time for training and goal setting and budgets is over, and it is time to start doing what God has called us to do... see the lives of coaches and athletes transformed by Jesus Christ.
A story of Impact: relationship matters
"I thought that FCA and Coach Setterstrom helped strengthen my walk with Jesus by holding me accountable for the life I said I wanted to live. When I was struggling he reached out because he truly cared and I could tell. FCA showed me how applicable my faith was to every aspect of my life: school, relationships, athletic journey, home life; and it showed me how to combat all the ups and downs. My FCA small group was one of the primary reasons I felt so comfortable getting baptized. I think the most valuable thing was being able to talk to similar kids and realize how normal my questions or struggles were. I think FCA and Coach Setterstrom played one of the most vital roles in my walk with Christ and I am forever grateful for that."
Sometimes we think that what we do as coaches does not matter, but if we are passionate about building Jesus centered relationships with our athletes that we work with we just might have an eternal impact on them and their relationship with Jesus. There is nothing that brings a smile to my face faster than seeing God at work.
Coaches as a focus
I have completed my Goals for this upcoming year ahead of school starting. I would like to share one with you in order that you pray for God to do a powerful work. I have feel called to start two new coaches huddle in schools where FCA was not present this past year. I will be intentional with reaching out, meeting, talking with and building relationships with coaches in the hopes that they accept the invitation to read Gods word together.
A summer of Impact and creating excitement for Jesus
This summer was filled with opportunities that athletes could build their relationship with Jesus and other student athletes from around the state. E3 camp and the Iowa sports camp did not disappoint and God showed up. Between the two camps, approximately 480 athletes and 70 coaches were able to learn and train in the principles of discipleship (E3) and the theme of being Proven in the eyes of God and not the eyes of man. They will be taking all this back to their campuses and teams this fall. We had the largest number of campers from my area attend camps (9 athletes) I am excited to see how God will use this to influence their teams and fellow students this fall. Please pray for them as they start their years and seasons. May they be bold in their faith and continue to live a life as a living testimony to the power of Jesus.
