When God Brings the Students

Dear Eastern Iowa FCA Family,

Sometimes ministry begins with just one student willing to step forward.

At Iowa City High School, that student was Ben Klitgaard.

At the beginning of the school year, Ben had a desire to start an FCA Huddle at City High. He loves Jesus and wanted to see other student-athletes at his school grow in their faith.

So he took the first step.

Then, week by week, students began showing up—athletes from different teams, backgrounds, and corners of the school. Within the first few gatherings, the room was filled with student-athletes eager to listen, ask questions, and dive into God’s Word together.

Coach Ryan Clevenger, who helps support the Huddle, described the experience this way:

“It felt like a moment where a barren place had finally received a flowing stream of water.”

For Ryan, the season has been a reminder that ministry is never about our ability to lead perfectly. Instead, it’s about trusting the power of God’s Word. As he shared:

“God’s Word works in us and through us. It’s not about how we package it or present it. His Word is alive and works the way that He longs it to.”

Ryan has seen God raise up student leaders who are eager to lead their peers. And that may be the most powerful part of all. Students reaching students.
